DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

@ozexpat and @perchie.girl I got this idea about the feed mixer, utilizing the leaf blower idea. You could make the big funnel container like in the video deb showed (sized for your demands), and have the pipe feed back into it. After a few minutes of mixing, you could just direct the pipe into whatever you store the feed in, and fill it. No tilt or gears needed, and less risk of fingers getting caught in moving parts.

The ones I got were about 6 feet wide by about 10 feet long. There were some that were a little smaller but I went for the bigger ones. I pulled up with a flatbed truck from work and a borrowed trailer and they loaded 2 up for me with their forklift. Couldn't get any easier than that. They advertise them on Craigslist for free quite often.

Here is a little coop I made from a snowmobile crate for some temporary housing. The local dealership gives them away, so we got three. I haven't done anything with the other two yet.

These are the same crates I used, same company. I used 1 full crate, about 6 x 10, to make a run for my old coop. I took some of the 2x3's from the base and used it to stiffen the bottom and covered the entire thing in chicken wire, instant run!

Yep.... The venturi effect in the transport tube itself should do the mixing.... Though I believe OZ is using a smaller grain in his feeds.... it may not take the leaf blower option... In other words it might Poof up and become a dust cloud.

But if you made dividers in the feed hopper so that only pure unmixed product came down into the area where the blower does its action... you could control the percentages in each batch.

@Bens-Hens may know more about such action than me though.

Hmmmm.... You know.... that would also make a good goat house... too. It certainly looks sturdy enough for goat abuse...

I can imagine dust everywhere!!

I have a 40:1 geared motor that will bring the speed down to the low 40 rpms. Given the diameter of my drum being abut 36" I think I need to drop the speed with a v belt and pulleys/sheathes.

This next trip we will try to make the frame and the following trip we shall install the motot.

Here is my shipping crate brooder. The lid is a $5 piece of 3/8" plastic and two $.50 door hinges from the Habitat Homestore.

the roosts are crape myrtle branches - sturdy and really smooth bark.
