DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

I made the poop sling today. I used striped water proof canvas attached with Velcro for easy cleaning. Primrose is hiding in the nest box where she is every night while they poop on her box. No more! I think life just got better for Primrose.

woo hoo.....

I like the "look" of the canvas...did you have that around or did you purchase it somewhere?  (Really like!)

Okay...why does Primrose sleep in the box instead of the roost?

I bought it at JoAnn's on sale. It's a heavy, sewable, waterproof fabric they sell for outdoor cushions. It's beautiful and also fade resistant.
Primrose is a long story. She had a buddy that died. She was my first and didn't know that "birds of a feather flock together". My others are in pairs. She's alone. I built this larger coop and a BYC friend is going to give me a RIR for Prim. I hope they bond. She's my favorite and very tame.

That is an awesome idea. I've been wanting a poop board but can't get my husband to do it. This I can do on my own!!!

I was considering a poop board when someone posted a sling on BYC. I got 2 dowels from Lowes and the fabric on sale at JoAnn's. It's outdoor fzbric and is probably on sale everywhere. It is heavy and easy to sew. I used iron on Velcro on both long sides and just wrap it around the length of both dowels. I can zip it off and shake it out and wrap it back. It protects Primrose and the nesting boxes. I think I will like it better than a board.

Or one of those woven plastic feed sacks...

I cover all my poop boards with feed bags. :) We go through 5-6 bags of feed a week and just fill feeders and switch out old bags with the new. So easy and keeps it fresh for all the ladies and gents. We also use old tarps that are on their last leg. Fold them to fit and just slid them in under roosts. So easy. :)

I am building a brooder inside my big coop and I've been stumped on how to keep the girls off the top or from pooping on the top?? Would something like this work for me?

Ummm something like what? It's good to quote the post you're talking about when asking in these big long threads ...no matter, takes awhile to figure out this forum.

Anyway I would make a sharply peaked 'roof' out of 2x4 welded wire, with the 4" opening going up and down and a wire at the peak....too unstable to roost on and you don't lose visual or ventilation on the brooder.

If the brooder has a closed top anyway, just turn it into a "poop board" with the feed bags or other removable covering. Build a roost above it and you've made the most of the available space.

I'm sorry .. New to this :)... I meant the tarps or the feed bags.. I like the idea of the peaked roof also! Thanks!
