I can't remember which distributor I called, but I asked if they would open for cleaning. They went out to their warehouse and checked. Told me there was no way to open them for cleaning which made me decide not to get it.

I had originally thought it might be a good option for heating water in the winter but if you can't open and clean them out it didn't seem like a good thing.

But won't stop night predators.

The fishing line is over my outer pen. My flock is locked up in the coop at night. "Knock on wood", I haven't had a hawk or owl attack since the fishing line went up.

They use the fishing line/cable method for keeping birds in and out at the San Diego Zoo. of course a raccoon could get in but Locking up at night is a guarantee that you have done your best keeping them safe.

I am rethinking using net for my run... It seems to me that fishing line would be easier to maintain in the over all picture...

Thank you, that makes my project easier and a whole lot cheaper. My wife just flew to a mennonite communty to visit her friend so when they go to town to shop I will have her look at finding clothesline on sale

Yours must be the 1 quart size.

I had hoped I could use the larger one with a heater inside but then realized that you couldn't get the bucket open. I think that design could be tweaked to make one that the lid screws off but will still keep a tight seal so they work correctly. If someone can design one I would certainly buy it!

My Bantam chicken run is inundated with mice. I don't have any cats, and don't want to use poisons. So I found this little device on the internet, and after one night it has shown that it works.
A 5 gallon bucket with less than half full of water. At the top of the bucket drill two holes opposite one another about 2 inches down from the top rim, for a short rod or dowel to pierce tightly through the holes.
A one pound coffee can with holes drilled through the center of both ends. Make sure these holes are large so the can will spin freely on the rod. Smear the seam side of the coffee can with Peanut Butter, as it is heaviest side of the can. . The mice will get on the rim of the bucket, and jump on the Peanut Butter, the can spins, dumping the mouse into the water trap. It just keeps on working.
