DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

My Bantam chicken run is inundated with mice. I don't have any cats, and don't want to use poisons. So I found this little device on the internet, and after one night it has shown that it works. A 5 gallon bucket with less than half full of water. At the top of the bucket drill two holes opposite one another about 2 inches down from the top rim, for a short rod or dowel to pierce tightly through the holes. A one pound coffee can with holes drilled through the center of both ends. Make sure these holes are large so the can will spin freely on the rod. Smear the seam side of the coffee can with Peanut Butter, as it is heaviest side of the can. . The mice will get on the rim of the bucket, and jump on the Peanut Butter, the can spins, dumping the mouse into the water trap. It just keeps on working.
Very nice. Angelici on this thread sometimes has chickens that eat mice. Mine have never shown that kind of behavior. I have a cat so I've never seen a mouse even in the feed storage area, but once I moved something and there was a garter snake the size of a large worm and my girls wouldn't go near it. They often will just stare at a worm. Mine are way too prissy. Lol

HAHA I forgot about the old peanutbutter on a can. My Great great grandparents used to have that in their kitchen! When my Great Great grandma caught one, she always dunked it in white paint. she said that way she could see if it ever came back but never did!!

Dad told me his Dad used something like that in his poultry house.

My Large fowl chickens though were deadly on mice.... saw two hens playing keep away with something running about he yard. When they stopped they each had opposite ends of a fat mousie... Big girl gave a jerk and a gulp and last I saw of it was its hind feet and tail going down her beak. It was like watching a T-Rex ... I still cant figure how their gizzard can handle eating one.... LOL.

I dont trap unless over run... and this way is the best.

I love the bucket traps!! Here's mine....
.....used a coat hanger fashioned so I didn't have to pierce bucket....
.....used a couple pieces of rubber on wire to keep cylinder (1 1/2" pipe with foam stuck in ends) away from edges of bucket....
....used a piece of wood as a ramp up to bucket edge if nothing was nearby for them to climb.

You can use windsheild washer fluid or non toxic RV antifreeze instead of water in the winter if you live where it freezes.
