Anyone ever tried using motor off ice cream maker to turn their egg trays. My neighbor knows I'm workin on new incubator and gave me one..

I like the idea but you will have to gear it way down

yep or find a way to slow it down. The eggs only have to be turned a few times a day. I like the idea of putting the egg rack on a cam and having it turn with a sloooooo mo motor. Most definately gearing is the first step... Like down to five revolutions per day.

Made an incubator from a discarded microwave and Christmas lights basically. Egg turner works on motor for
turn table works great.

I was thinking to put it on timer and have it hooked to a bigger gear that is like cam for multiple trays. Would a dimmer slow it down

Thats why when you live in an area with brown outs it tends to burn out the refrigerator.... Lost a brand new one in two years to brown outs... sigh.

By the way is this a DC motor or an AC motor... might make a difference. There are people who read this thread now and then who are wis bang with motors. Hopefully they will chime in.

Now give me the gears shafts and ask me how to mount it all.... I am there... VBG.

A dimmer would but it would eventually burn the motor out.  Motors are funny things.  They require a certain amount of voltage and amps in order to operate correctly.   Unless they are set up to be variable.    But turn the volts down and a motor will try to draw enough amps to create the wattage it needs to run.  Unless I have my crude understaning of electric motors messed up.  Then the higher amps cause the workings to burn out.

Thanks, I've built several and all are still going strong. I had to replace the valve on one that I made for a friend of mine but I'm pretty sure he never cleans it out.

This is a picture of babies home. it is 10x20. I used 2 old dog runs and put them together leaving off 20 feet to add on later if we wish. The coop is an old hound dog house that was already off the ground, bought it at a estate sale for $20. There is 4 hens in there now and 3 babies growing waiting to be added to the flock. I am all about recycling any and everything I can. I love my babies and now they have a safe home to do their job, make me smile and lay some eggs LOL
