DLM in the run? Tell me if I'm in trouble here

Ok so I've been using the deep litter method in the run as well as the coop. Since then I've been realizing that no one else seems to be doing this. Have I messed up? I got the girls May 2nd, started out with about 2 inches of shavings in there, and every week I added another half inch and some diatomaceous earth for a while, then it went to every two weeks or so. They dustbathe and dig in that stuff, and it's about 6 inches high now.

It doesn't get wet (I'm in CA) except when I hose down the girls when it gets over 90--but then it doesn't stay wet at all because it dries out right away.

ANy concern with this? It doesn't smell at all, and the DE keeps away the flies pretty well (along with our fly traps).

I'm sure it's just fine, especially if the litter stays dry.
I only use the deep litter method in winter. In summer I only use an inch or so of litter & clean them out often. It seems to keep the coops cooler. My coops are sealed fairly tight, so I found deep litter generates heat.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it

Good luck, have fun,
