Do’s and Don’ts of Using Duck Poop as Fertilizer/Compost

Hi ya'll, Gladys is fine and just had her 9th birthday on Easter! She wouldn't still be here without the help received here after she became ill last spring.

About compost. I use pine shavings and change her house weekly and put into the compost pile. I also keep a separate pile off to the side, mix occasionally and then use for mulch around trees and plants. The pH mix between the poop and the pine seem to balance nicely.

BTW, here she is from last week. She is so happy it's spring.

I use pine shavings and when I clean out my coops I put the spent shavings out in the holes in the yard my chickens dig and just let it decompose it makes the nicest mulch and dirt for planting.

Chicken poop is hot, but duck poop is actually not... as long as your neighbors don't object, it would be great for a vegetable garden...

I have emptied my duck pools directly onto plants and they absolutely thrived... :)
Same here, duck poop is NOT the same as chicken poop, it does't burn anything even when chucked straight on, apparently it has a much closer to ideal npk ratio than any other manure.
