Do all breeds of ducks dislike being picked up and carried around? I raised a male call duck since he was two weeks old. When he was young he liked being carried around. Now he is 7 months old and hates being picked up and carried around.

Will the same experience be true for Pekin or other breed of ducks?

And why are chickens easier to carry around than ducks? Is it because they can perch on your arm unlike ducks?

I have three different breeds of ducks, and none of them like being picked up. When one had a limping issue, I was so excited I got to hold her for a few minutes to check her feet.

Almost all of the silkies on the other hand, I can walk up to in the yard and just pick them up.

I've heard this before about ducks so guess it's just their nature.

Once they’re fully mature they usually don’t like to be picked up, usually. I have a three year old drake who does like to be picked up and snuggled so personality can play a role in it.

Maybe if they’re handled every day they can learn to accept it as routine, but mostly they’re not into it as independent adults.

I’ve had all different breeds and many mixed breeds. None of my ducks truly like being picked up. A few will tolerate it more than others, but would still rather I left them be. It’s just how ducks are, nothing personal.
My ducks will follow me, sit by me, eat from my hand.. but any approach from me makes them move away.

Most ducks who “like” being picked up are the ones who are pair bonded to you, which is not really something you want.

My female African goose, on the other hand.. she makes me carry her to bed!! Big ol’ snuggle bug, that one.

My ducks do not want anything to do with being picked up.

My male goose is a big boy and I have grabbed him a time or two when he isn't being very nice. My female does not let me near her. Not sure I could catch her without a net.

I did have an African Male Goose. He was snuggly as a gosling. Always went on your lap and liked being carried as a 6 month old. He was my favorite...he got sick and died. :idunno

The big white goose is my mean a-hole male. ( I just love him to pieces❤️) He doesn't really like me though.

In the end, I feel it takes A LOT of time and their personality to be able to handle them.

Every type I have had hates being picked up. But, why would they like it? They are “more wild” or less domesticated than chickens. There are still wild Mallard ducks, but show me a wild chicken? In the wild, if you are picked up you are being carried off to be eaten. So, I think they are smarter than chickens or at least have better instincts.
I do believe that my ducks love me. They quack loudly when they see me or even hear me get out of my car. They run to me for treats and seem to trust me, if I don’t grab them. I have heard ducks described as “feathered puppies” and I think it is because they will run to you and follow you, not because they like you to pet them.
