Do all button quail males growl ? 🐤

Do all button quail males growl ? ... mine is a super tame 7 week old male who never growls and never calls to his girlfriend.
But he's begun to take to her and they stand/sit very close together.
He does call for me to go get him a few times a day however and then the female starts to call for him but he never answers.
Is he just not mature enough or is he not interested since he's so bonded to me?

My darth male didn’t growl until his mate died, now he growls about 14 hours a day. Happy birds tend to be quieter. My cinnamon darth has 3 ladies and I’ve never heard him growl or call, but his ladies call to the other male sometimes.

Why does he do it? -- I read about a coturnix that barked b/c there was a dog in the house

oh that's good news.. my wee boy must be happy b/c the only time he makes noise is to call for me. Most the time he's quietly chittering and making singsong noises i can only hear if very close (or if he's hanging out in my hair while I'm on my laptop such as now)

I've only had males growl after they lost a mate. I've heard that it's the sound they make when looking for a mate.

My husband jokes that the male has been trying to connect to aol with dial up ever since his mate died, he’s obviously been out of the game a long time haha. He does sound a lot like the old dial up noises, and never made them before she passed.

Nabiki is right. It is a sound that bachelor or widower males make. It's normal showing off stuff. My bachelors will do it all night.... It's cute but can get annoying.

oh boy.... So I posted this thread 2 days ago... and suddenly today at 8 weeks of age, here is my baby boy - I'd been playing button quail sounds on YT.... and now he's BOTH crowing for the first time ever as well as growling!

lol... it's super cute ... before today he never did either of those things!!

Me luvs mah boy! (btw he has a girlfriend for the past 2 weeks)
