Do bantams hatch earlier than standards? Take babies after hatch?

Yay!!

I have nothing but bantams, and for mine it seems to depend on what breed they are. Most of mine do hatch by day 20, and then some of the bigger ones (bantam EE, silkie/OEG mix hen) take the full 21 days. But most all of my eggs hatch early, and that is when they are in the same incubator as the rest, or sitting under the same hen. It does depend on the temperature, but for mine, the ones that do hatch on day 21 don't seem to do very well.

Question: I'm incubating BBS Bantam Orpington eggs right now... do they have a tendency to hatch early as well? Should I stop turning and increase the humidity earlier than day 18? I've been keeping them at a pretty steady temp between 100.8 and 101 degrees.

I also want to move them to egg cartons for hatching... well, right now they're sitting in the cracks of upsidedown egg cartons for support (they are shipped eggs).

I have had them hatch up to 3 days late and still do fine. Please hatch, oh please.

I'm going to. I had alot of eggs in that particular incubator, and they were probably the ones on the outside. (LG Stillair)

Some say bantams hatch earlier but my bantams always hatch the same time as my standards. Even when I set eggs together the standards are no more than a few hours behind the bantams. Now the seramas I have in the hatcher right now might be a different story. They have been known to frequently hatch early and I stopped turning a day early for that reason. Maybe it is a little breed dependent on which bantams hatch earlier or not.

I would not let Bantams free range with chicks with cats around. My Polish lost a chick every day to the neighbors cat until I just picked them up and brooded indoors.

Patience! They're not on an egg timer. :) Give them a few more days, easily. My banties have hatched mixed flocks, and it took about 3-4 days at least to get everyone hatched who was going to hatch. And some of them were quite speedy--at bedtime there would be no sign of pipping, but in the morning I'd find a new family member.

Did you place the eggs under her at the same time 21 days ago, or did donors make deposits over the course of a couple of days?

well one is because i was getting eggs and i set one down to get the rest and she came out and stole it i tried to get it back but she attacked me so i left it and some other hens got in the nest and lay'ed in there when i was gone .. but there are 3 that were in there at the same time
