My 3 TT and my 3 RSL girls have been in their coop for 3 nights now. Every night I go out to check on them all my TT are on the second & third level roost, but all my red sexlink girls are huddled together on the coop floor UNDER the roosting chickens.. I would think it was age, but the red girls never roosted in the brooder either.. Will they learn or do I need to do something?? Maybe they like getting pooped on at night

Some breeds "pick up on it" quicker, that's all. I have always thought the ISA Brown was a slow learner about the roost, at least mine where. They slept in a pile for a horribly long time.

Here's a belief. If chicks grow up seeing older hens doing it, they learn it quicker. Just an observation.
Some report here that they've had some that never did catch on. Go figure. I'll say this much. If there was an IQ test to administer to chickens, I've had some that would ace it and be put into Advance Placement classes, while others would have to be sent to special ed. Just sayin.

not all breeds like roosting with each other. i have three sets of roost in my coop. my ee hens roost on the highest roost and none of the breeds roost near the rir hens. you could say they rule the roost.
