Do chickens cough?

My 2 yr. old rooster lives in Trinidad & has recently started making a sound that sounds like a loud hiccup. A rumbling sound precedes the "hiccup" followed by a "sigh" like sound (same sigh that comes after crowing.
He seems normal otherwise.
Is this normal?
Hi @Loveariver :frow Welcome To BYC
Can you take a video of your rooster so we can hear the noise he is making? (upload to youtube, then provide us a link)

Does he have any symptoms of respiratory illness? Mucous, watery eyes, facial swelling, etc.?

Check inside his beak just to make sure it's clear of mucous, lesions, obstructions and canker.
I would also check the crop first thing in the morning before he eats/drinks - see that it's empty.

Hopefully with video or photos and a little more information, we can give you better suggestions.

Chickens do cough. I think every animal with lungs does. Mine especially if I give them dry feed, as they all try and eat it too fast. One reason why I like fermenting their feed, the wet stuff goes down easier and they don't gag on it.

Thank you.
He has no visible symptoms, however I will try to record him and upload as you suggest.

I have actually started adding a little water to their feed to soften. They actually seem to enjoy it more that way. I tried the fermented feed....they hated it. Had to dump like 2 gals.
