so, last night all of our chickens roosted up except one buff, who went for the laying boxes. we said what ever, and in the morning she was still in there and would not get out and was raising quite the fit. my wife finally got her out of the box at 9:45am, and there were three eggs under her. I just got home from work today at 4:pm and she is back in the box. I lifted her butt up and there were 2 eggs under her that felt like they were just layed. she is still in there squaking with her vent contracting. has any one ever heard of this?

I have a couple who let others lay and they will sit on them. We had one who would keep escaping our fenced in area, I would just chase her out and dump her back. Didn't think she had time to lay - yes, I spent too much time watching chickens this summer..... guess what - the DH had to pull her out one day after being in there 4+ hours, much to our surprise, there was a clutch of 17 eggs!! I don't think she layed that many, and since they all look so similar, we were probably chasing out different hens each time! duh..... I have taken now to putting colored zip ties on the ones that I catch and seem broody, then I can watch them more!!
