Do chickens like snow?

None of my girls liked walking in the deep snow but they sure pecked /picked at it --the little bits that accumulated in the edges of their run!

Thank you everyone, Now I have an idea about how things work in the winter. We can get a lot of snow here in Mi.Ill just try to keep their run free of as much snow as I can and hope for the best. We also plan on covering the sides ( about the bbottom 2 ft ) of the run with wood so they wind cant get em...

My chickens would follow behind the kids when they were rolling snowballs for snowmen--that way they would get to the grass and not have to walk in the snow. Othere than that, they didn't want anything to do with the snow

There is another key to getting them to go out in cold snowy weather....Besides the covered run. That would be the heavy visceen / plastic stapled to the north and west sides of the run. This keeps the prevailing snow out of run. I am enclosing a pic where you can see the coop and roofed run behind it. It shows the west side with visceen stapled to keep snow out. I had to learn this the hard way. Had one coop with a roof but no plastic stapled up and the strong winds with snowstorms would blow deep snow into run. Hope this helps,

Dave

The only thing they like about the snow is when I come into the coop with it on my boots they love to pick at it. Sometimes I'll even toss a snowball to them just to watch them work on it. As far as going out in it--no.
