Do chickens pant?

Well I am in the Isle of Man (Great Britain) and while it is sunny it is certainly not up to Texas standards! Nonetheless, one of my girls is lying on her side with one leg extended, her wings slightly raise and her beak slightly parted as she pants in the 'heat". What a Drama Queen!

Yes, they pant when they are warm and also when they are stress out. Provide some shade of them, especially in mid afternoon, and make sure they never run out of water.

We live in Corpus Christi Texas, and I currently have a halved watermelon freezing to give to my girls later...they are all out there panting like crazy in their Shaded coo with two five gallon waterers...I have one in a separate cage because I think she got heat stroke yestrday...this heat is crazy!

I know it's been answered, fans are a good idea if u have the electric hook-up. I was actually transporting some young birds today and I think the box was to small. They were def panting so I had to open it up to air out and hope they don't fly out in my truck! Haha

We've had over 100 degree heat everyday for over two weeks now here in NM. Every morning I put out frozen gallon jugs of ice, and fill the chickens 'pool' with cool water. The hens will lay around the ice jugs during the hotter part of the day, and I think it helps them to cool off. In the afternoons I add ice to their pool, and they love that. There isn't much more I can do for them, but they do pant late in the afternoon when it's hottest. I think the ice jugs help the most for keeping them somewhat cooler. For whatever reason, they don't like to go outside until early evening when it's started to cool down.
