Do chickens have emotions? Of course they do! Why does a hen/rooster get anxious and worried when a hen goes missing from the flock? Why do chickens mourn eachothers deaths? Why do chickens all come running when they see their owner? (Because of food, like all animals do. But what does food make them feel? Happy, content.) Why does a chicken cuddle in your lap or come up to you for pats? What about when a hawk flys up in the sky? The chickens all run for cover. fear. Why does a baby chick stay close to its mom and peep for her when she gets lost? Why does a mother hen protect her babys? Why do certain hens hang out together all day?

Emotions in chickens? I say absolutely. And it was proved to me yesterday.

Sophia, my delaware rescue hen, has seizures. Every 30 seconds. She'll flop on her side and tuck her head under her kicking feet and lay there for a sec with her eyes shut. I cradle her in my arms everyday for 10 minutes to give her a break from having to struggle on the ground. As she has her seizures, she'll grab onto my hand. Litterally, reach over and grasp my finger and curl her toes around for support. comfort. It touches my heart to know she trusts me and depends on me, enough to even hold my hand when she needs help.
Sheis truly a sweetheart and a miracle to be alive. Shestruggles with this everyday. I am feeding her Ambrotose,a company bought powder that strengthens bones and nerves and has helped my hamster Bear get rid of his tumor.

I'm glad she has you to look after her. Hope the meds help her get better

And I totally agree with you about their emotions. They get happy, sad, they grieve, they worry... just like us.

aw bless her at least you do your best and she obviously knows that you love her. ps anyone who says chickens dont have emotions must not have ever spent a day with a one. they are amazing animals and scientific studies have even shown that chickens have empathy with humans!
