Do chicks lie down (really!) to sleep??

If they go face-first into anything - food, water or bedding, I gently pick them up and move them. Sometimes they are so pooped out they don't even wake. Note - a chicks neck muscles are not weak, if they were they would not be able to tear around the way they do. Its just how they sleep.

Thanks for all the stories. I have to shake them or move their beds to make sure they are ok. It's is very strange but glad it's normal.

My chicks are all laid flat out snoring at the moment, they always make me laugh when they sleep like this in a big fluffy line of chicks under the brooder in the brood box. But if I rustle the chick crumb sack man they all jump up real quick and come running for food.

They also look real funny when they dust bath in the shavings. I put some pebbles in there shallow water container so no one can drown should the fall asleep near it. All in all they are pretty darn cute n fluffy at this stage.

Darn chicks scared me stiff the first time I saw them stretched out! I had just lost a duck and a goose before I got them, so I was paranoid and upset already-- I just grabbed a chick as fast as I could, and the little stinker chirped at me like I was crazy!! Lol. Hope I never fall for that again!
