do chicks recognize people?

Lol. These are some awesome responses. I wasn't sure whether it was a conditioned response but maybe they do know me. Kinda cool! Thanks guys. This chicken adventure is super fun

Mine seem to recognize my voice better than my appearance when they are chicks. Once they grow up, all I have to do is open the front door and the racket starts - what did you briiiiing us? They all come running, lol.

When mine were tiny, I don't think they would have known the difference between me and Jack the Ripper. But that started changing around the 6 week mark. Now, at 7-8 weeks, they come running when I walk toward them; I'm the treat giver. When DH comes near, they still shy back and avoid him. Of course my adult chickens are very aware of who is who around here...

I have dorkings and ameraucanas hatched from incubators. They definitely know one person from another
as well as their rank in the chicken coop.

I think it takes them a while to recognize and get used to people, but they eventually do realize who their food comes from and who is nice. I only just got my chicks, but I had 2-3 month old birds that I bought last spring. At first, they were terrified of me. A couple warmed up very quickly and would eat out of my hands within a few weeks. Other birds still won't eat out of my hand to this day, but they still come running to me when they see me. I brought a friend over to see them one day and they all ran away like they were about to be slaughtered. I found it very interesting since my chickens follow me around the yard and I heard them into the run without problem.

I have a select group of girls that fly up to the brooder edge and follow me around it while I tend to their food/water/cleaning. Some of the others chirp up at me and others stay away, but I'm sure they all know who I am. My DH, however, hardly ever visits them so there not too keen when he's around.

My wife calls me the pied piper of the chickens. I take care of the chickens most of the time. My children have some 4-H and they spend some time with the chicks and the chickens, but it’s mostly me that takes care of them. When I walk out the door they come running from where ever they are usually from the bamboo and they follow me as I walk around the yard.
When I go to the brooder they come running to the door to see me. There are only a few that come to the kids. So my answer to your question would be yes they do recognize people.
