Do comb colors change throughout the day?

I could swear that my EE's comb colors change throughout the day. One minute they look really red and then they go back to looking pale. This doesn't seem to be an issue with my Wellies. Am I seeing things???

I don't know but I just noticed my 3 month old EE's combs are a lot redder today than they were yesterday.

I noticed that my year olds get really red combs before laying their eggs. Once they lay they go back to a pale red.

My chickens are little--7 weeks--so I know they aren't getting ready to lay. It's just so strange to me to see how different their combs can look. I am trying to figure out whether one of my EE's is a roo. Sometimes I look at her and I see a red comb and think, yep--roo--and then other times, it is as pale as the Wellies. So strange!

I have found that with my chicks. I suspect a roo because of the changing red comb.
