Do Cuckoo Marans make good brooders?

We've got Buff Minorcas, RIR's and Brown Leghorns. We want to add some good layers/brooders to our chicken yard this year. A Lady in the next town over has some Cuckoo Maran Roosters she wants to give away and I'll definately be getting one of them, now I'm wondering if I should order some Hens for him as well.
