Do ducklings need company???

Did the float test and it sunk which I was confussed about, thought that's what unformed eggs did so I naughtily opened up the shell and found a little dead duck with all blood vessels absorbed and yellow stuff all around it..... what would this be? it almost looked like the yolk. I feel really bad for this little guy. Could I have saved him if I intervened earlier?

I don't think you could have saved him, sounds like the yolk sac ruptured nothing you could have done to keep that from happening.

Very sorry.

So it's just one of those things that happens....
Oh well perhaps better luck next time, thanks for all you guys help.

Oh no, I'm so sorry he didn't make it. :/ But like Miss Lydia said, it sounds like a ruptured yolk sac. It just happens sometimes if they accidentally rip their yolk sac with their claws when they're moving around in there. Absolutely nothing you could do.
