Do ducks EVER go into a shelter?

I'll live in SE Michigan, and we're having the same weather. I found my ducks inside during the day, and outside at night when it's the coldest!

They're Buff Orp Ducks... The one with the stripes on her face we call Racing Stripes or 80s Gal.

Her sisters are solid coloured.

My ducks don't want to come out of their coop even my wild ones. They huddle under the heat lamps.

Number one, How gorgeous are your little ducks accio!!
Number two, we leave the hut open all day so they can shelter, we don't have super cold weather on the island but our neighbour worried about them cos she saw them out in gale force winds and in hail, so she donated them a little hutch to go at the end of their run. The only time they'll go in is if there's a juicy spider setting up residence. Despite this, they don't like the hail and when I went out in my waterproofs to check they were okay they all tucked under me like I was a momma duck and were happy for me to use my body as a hail shield. I know, I know...but they're only little and they my baaaaaabies lol.

They're out there right now pretending they haven't been behind the shed. They hear the back door opening and dash out the front and try to look innocent.

My call ducks very rarely go into their shelter. Even night before last when the temps got down to -7 here with a nastier windchill and snow they nestled down in the straw outside instead of inside.

I provided my ducks with a roofed pen (wire walls, but with haybales to block the wind) and they adore it. The big all wood, protected nesting box I made they ignore entirely - even with the crazy windstorms we get up here on Whidbey.

Oh my goodness it was so funny, I went to let my ducks out the other morning fairly early around 6 am and it was freezing out. I opened the ramp and they all started quacking and barreled out the door, mind you I have over 60. They all poured out quacking their butts off, got all quiet when they realized how could it was then nearly ran each other over trying to get back into the coop!

I am new to ducks too and spent hours building a straw bale shelter a month ago for them beside the pond w/solid top w/tarp covering. I put a gravity fed feeder outside the shelter door - they eat out of it and have laid a few eggs in the shelter but otherwise won't go in it! We are an hour south of Buffalo, NY and have had 2 foot of snow plus 60mph winds in this lake effect storm we've had the last two days. Those ducks never left the pond. I looked out with a flashlight and during the worst wind they were being blown back and forth over the pond like decoys. It never occurred to them to seek shelter! the pond is starting to freeze and we've even looked into getting a de-icer to keep the pond opened for them. I have a pair of Pekins and 5 Rouen. Now the feeder is buried in snow so I'll have to go out tomorrow and shovel and hope they get the idea and come up there to eat. Chickens are much smarter - they stick their head out their door and see snow and sensibly stay inside!

My Scovies have two duck houses they get closed into at night but return to to lay eggs. When the weather is bad they bee line it fm the duck houses .... straight to the carport which is enclosed on three sides.

Yesterday, with wind gusting up to 48mph & wind chill of -10, they pretty much stayed in the carport till bed time then with my prompting headed straight back to the duckhouses.

My ducks do, but I think it's because they were raised with chickens aha.
