We are familiar with chickens but not so much with ducks. I think some duck eggs would add some nice variety to our farmers market booth. Can I successfully put some ducks in with our chicken flock? Would they follow the chickens back in the coop at the end of the day? Would I need to make some different nest boxes?

as far as I know, ducks do not roost. they will sleep on the ground. they are messy poopers but oh so adorable!

Yes very MESSY!!! But so very cute, I noticed that some ppl in post have cynider blocks and put a hole on the very last hole so its like 2" off the ground....???

The Muscovy I have now have not yet started to roost in my coop. None of my other ducks try but the Khaki Campbells will get up on the dog house that is 2' off the ground. I have not seen my Muscovy even try but they were fed scratch grain only before I got them and I think they have a ways to go to be healthy enough to want to move much.

Maybe roost was the wrong word. We have an automatic door on the coop, so I wonder if the ducks come back in at the end of the day like chickens do? I don't want them to stay out and get eaten by a fox or coyote. Will we need to build some different nest boxes that are on the floor for the ducks?

We just added an Indian runner and mallard to our mixed flock this summer. They are together in a large run and all go in at sunset. I had to catch the indian runner her first 3 nights and move her into the hen house. She's now gone in 4 weeks straight and counting.

My black swede female flys up onto roosting box in the duck house many morning when I let them out 5 ducks come out and I have to wait for her to jump down thought she was going up there because the drakes are mating maybe she likes the space away from the males

I don't own ducks and may be unqualified to answer this. But I've lived on the water my whole life and what I've learned is that generally no they don't. I've seen them land in trees and stay awhile but they always leave. I have a group that does spend every night sitting atop a log that pokes out of the water all summer this year though so I wouldn't rule out the off chance that it could happen. But most come up on the bank. But these are wild ducks. They do what they want.
