They are actually not genetically related to to mallard ducks, so that is why they roost. They are native to south America, in the jungles.

My pekin ducklings are roosting..... The khakis prefer the ground

My Pekin pair roost.. sometimes. They have either option available..ground or roost. They have a ramp they use to get on the playeform. I guess it depends on the ducks!
