I put a four fertile Welsummer eggs ( from Ebay) under one of my broody RIR hens about a week ago. Today I found her in a diffent nesting box with eggs exposed. I put the eggs under her again and she scooted them under her once again. Its about 30 degrees here and the eggs were pretty cold. Do you thing there is at chance of them hatching???

Have you candled them?

I think they will be OK. They might hatch a little later than you expected. Just keep your eye on her now that you know she might wind up on the wrong nest.

So, when I candle them what am I looking for? Ive never hatched eggs myself before. Ive always taken the easy route and bought chicks. Thanks

If the eggs are dark it can be a bit difficult you need a strong torch you should be able to make out some veining or some movement

Thanks for all the info! I really appreciate it. I decided to start my chicken adventure after watching a clip on You Tube that was filmed in England:) I've always wanted to go there. Thanks again!
