Do eggs need to be refrigerated or not?

I'm with her!!!!!!

I have a very cool area in the basement, all year long, but it is NOT up to refridgerator standards.

I keep excess there, and have for about 40 years. No one has been poisoned yet.

Store bought eggs are often 3 or 4 months old when you buy them!

I am the same as most of the others, unwashed goes on the counter, if dirty, they get washed and go in the fridge.

Does washed mean literally washed like with soap and water... Or just rinsed off with some water?

As long as you don't wash the eggs either with just plain water or egg soap, you can leave them on the counter for a month. If you wash them then you must refrigerate them. They do keep better when you refrigerate and if you are going to boil them they will peel better if they have been refrigerated for a week or two first. The cold helps the membrane in the egg shell to firm up and detach from the shell. Also when you buy eggs from the store they are already 2 weeks to a month old before the stores get them.

I've read that you should use warm water. I just rinse mine off and rub with my hands to get the tougher "stuff" off. Towel dry and to the frige. I only wash when I get a couple of days worth of eggs so they sit on the counter for several days.

Wow! Thanks for all of the great tips and advice!

I'm definitely going to be an eggs on the counter type of girl from now on. They're way too pretty to hide in the fridge.

Thanks fellow chicken people!!!
