Do fetuses float or sink?

My last incubation batch didn’t go well because I had them on their tips in a rotater, so they all grew away from the air cell. There’s some dips and bends in my incubator, so hand rotation is sadly varied. I was wondering if setting them in cups large side down would help. Though I’m not sure if the embryos would float up toward the tip, or sink to the air cell

Eggs should always be placed fat end up.

they would float up to the tip with the yolk, if in early stages. Later stages perhaps sink, not sure. They shouldn't be kept point up. Either air cell up and tilted, or lying sideways. I always turn mine by hand due to cheap auto turners being awful

Please describe this more clearly.. is that pointy side down or pointy side up? What turner was it and did you verify it was actually turning?

I was wondering if setting them in cups large side down would help.

Large side down is an absolute NO NO and I think this needs further diagnosis. Lets talk thermometers

ETA: The float test only tells you how much gas exchange has taken place in the egg. Older eggs will have more air and float a little more..

Okay, no problem. I was just wondering what I could do to improve.
Not sure how to further diagnose other than maybe saying how the hatch turned out poorly. All the chicks developed at the egg tip rather than at the air cell. So they were malpositioned and died in the egg. One hatched since I made it in time to open a hole around its beak more. I notice another one broke a hole but died because I left it alone. It may have drowned by the looks of it? I’m not experienced, but that’s my assumption.
Anyways it’s no biggie, I’m just trying to learn how to avoid malposition with this very expensive- terrible- incubator I have

drowning is caused by humidity too high, I think there is more to this than how they were turned

For sure, humidity wasn’t good. Though I was wondering if I could fix the development toward the tip since I can address the other stuff. Looking at the replies I guess hand rotation is all I can hope for

it depends on the situation with the turner- I'm sort of confused about how that is to blame-
At what stage did the embryos end up in the tip? Was the yolk stuck at the tip during the early stages, did they just sink to the bottom half once they started filling up the shell?
