Hi what's your experience with chickens when there are fireworks going off near your property? Are they scared, do they keep sleeping?
A friend with new chickens is worried about Halloween noise. My hens might cluck a bit then I guess go back to sleep! What do yours do? I'll share everyone's replies, thank you!

Sometimes they start making this noise that they make when they see a predator! One hen goes off, next thing you know, the whole coop is louder than the fireworks themselves

But yes, I have seen them get scared before. Sometimes, if it's not too loud, they just disregard it.
Oh dear! Yes i imagine that can be really alarming for them!

No fireworks, but my coop/run is just 20 yards away from my shooting range, and there seems to be little concern from the chooks. If they are out free ranging, or in the run, they seem to be neutral, not running away, but not coming closer either.
That's interesting, so they've learned it's not a threat. Maybe similar to when my partner is using power tools in the garden, my hens aren't afraid but don't hang nearby either. Thanks!
