Do hatched chicks grow faster than...

I think it's interesting to know about... I had EE's from a hatchery - this chick is EE/Welsummer so fairly close.

What might be different in her feathering is that I put a mirror in her cage (she was the only one to hatch) and she spends a lot of time over by the mirror where it's probably more like 75 deg. than 95.

She has a lot of feathers for 11 days old!

I'm in agreement, shipped birds grow slower. Incubator hatched will grow faster than hen hatched. (My opinion). In the end they all are the same size as adults. There is another saying, chickens hatched in the fall will sometimes finish at a larger size than those hatched in the spring. this is what I was told.

Interesting, I have always heard that fall hatched chicks will have bigger eggs than spring hatched. Something to do with the light. This is the first time I have raised fall hatched chicks and they are growing slower, but they have had less light. I'll keep an eye on the eggs when they start laying and see what I get.

My chicks that grew faster were winter hatched chicks ... but they were in the house so they had plenty of light. The slow Brahmas were spring birds, but were outside.
