Do hatching eggs by post need to settle ?

This is first time I have ordered hatching eggs by post. I am expecting 12 Silkie eggs any day to arrive and I intend to place them under broody hen, do I need to let them settle for any length of time first? I have never used an incubator and had many successful hatchings with my hens. I am excited to have my first Silkies

Yep, most usually let them sit fat end up in an egg carton to settle. Sometimes the eggs are handled roughly and the air cells detach. You'll probably want to candle the eggs when you get them to see what the air cells look like. They should be one solid bubble that stays in the big end of the egg, but rough handling can cause them to roll around the egg or even scramble them (they'll be a bunch of little bubbles instead of one big one). That settling period allows the air cells a chance to reattach or collect back in the proper spot. If you let them settle over night (12 or so hours) they should be alright. Good luck!
