Do hen chicks really get their wing and tail feathers first?

I have read on this site about the overlap wing feathers are pullets.i checked my three one year pullets and they have the overlap wing feathers.

Witchprincess, do you mean pick them up in the area we would call a shoulder on a human? Was looking at sexing techniques and have yet to come across this method. Since im documenting my first bunch for educational purposes I will try it and photograph it to. Curious mostly half the fun is waiting to see what I get but as I get more it will statistics wise be interesting. I home school plus I live in a foreign country.

Yes CarriBrown. has it right "Strait Run" means they are 'supposed' to be unsexed.

However be careful when buying them, in my area you get as much as 100% Roo's in a batch. Some growers are not as honest as others and simply sell all the Rooster chicks as Strait Run.

And what a beautiful hen!!!!

She consistently lays double yolk eggs.

The best way to tell roosters from hens very early is to pick them up with two fingers one DIRECTLY behind each wing at the TOP only fingertips on chicks. if their legs point straight down they are hens if they point forward, with the knee joint bent, they are roosters. THIS IS NOT AN OLD WIVES TALE THEIR LEGS POINT THESE DIRECTIONS AS A SCIENTIFIC RESULT OF THEIR PELVIS SHAPE(a hen's being wider for laying) this method has a 90-99% success rate and is how breeders and feed stores tell. They will squirm but will eventually calm down, my pullets all passed the straight leg test if you need further proof!
I need a video or photo please. It will help a lot
