I got 3 Ameraucana chicks in May (straight run). One of them started crowing over a week ago and he went back to the farm. Now suddenly I have another “crower” but it doesn’t sound right. I don’t even know how to explain it, but I’ve never heard one like it. First, it’s SUPER loud. But! It also is a short quip of a crow. Almost like the crow is only one syllable. 😂 Instead of a cock-a-doodle-doo it’s just a cock-a, but the “a” gets choked out. This sounds ridiculous. I’m either completely crazy or everyone is going to understand.

Is this a roo, possibly? The comb and wattles are extremely small where the one that was returned was much more developed when he went back just a week ago.

Hens can and do crow. Especially in an all-hen flock. There is one that may decide to crow and take on rooster behaviors such as tid-bitting to the other hens when treats are around.
