Do hens lay more eggs with a rooster around or without one?

Nope. The rooster isn’t even incooperated into my flock yet haha. He has a separate pen next to the hens so that they get use to his scent- and they’ve all picked up laying. Them being less stressed with him around is the only thing I can figure out as to why
Chickens don't use smell to identify, so they aren't getting used to his scent. They can barely smell.
It's another reason that happens to be coinciding, there's no reason that the very presence of a male speeds up the hormone cycle. It ovulation, only hormones (controlled by light and nutrition) can affect it.

How long have you had him? How old are these hens?
How many hens?

Something else has triggered the increase in eggs.

They also don't get used to his scent.....
They get used to his presence.
Must be a mystery!! Nothing else has changed. My hens are 3 years old and stopped laying every day. we’ve only had the rooster a week, and some of my chickens are laying two eggs in a day!! It’s crazy, we just can’t figure it out.
