Do Hens Need a Rooster Break?

I don't know what you have in regard to finances, but it looks to me like he is a lot larger than your females. Is there any way you could make a little "haven" for your hens, with an entry that is only large enough for *them* to fit into - whereas his bigger body won't fit through the door? That way - they can leave him for a while on their own terms. :) The laying of hens by roosters is part of life and if he's a good roo - I wouldn't separate him. That will cause anxiety, frustration and possibly change his demeanor to be even more aggressive from being held back from them...he's likely to come out even worse than before in regard to his "libido".

I would make hens a small little hidey-box that only they can access. That way they'll take a break themselves if they want to, and if they are fine with him mounting them all the time - so be it. Let them decide. :D

Thanks you guys, I like your reasonings. I haven't seen him mate the molting hen, only the 1.5 year old girls which means they are getting more attention than usual :|. I'll just monitor their progress with these saddles on and see how they do. If I do separate him I'd just section off a corner in the coop to keep him, but it would be a pain...
