So yesterday I was up early, and I'm pretty sure I heard what seems to be a cockerel trying to crow a few houses down.
So this morning I was up before 6, and around 6 o'clock I stare out my window at my hen (two out of the three are broody) and I saw and heard what seemed to be my BCM hen trying to crow. She was doing the whole stretch neck and everything. 🤔
Got rid of out our rooster months ago since he thought every human was a target.

I have heard of head hens showing her authority by trying to crow. Mine will try when shes in with the brooder, or the pullets are running amuck ;) ... at first I thought she was choking. Scared me to death! Stretched her neck and sounded like a weird cough! Watched her for a min... but she was fine. Just letting everyone know she was there.

How old is she?
Is she laying?
Do the broodies have eggs to hatch?
Had one hen crow all winter, duets with the cockbird and helped with 'herding' duties.
She stopped when she came back into lay.

My Golden Comet started crowing I was so startled I had to see it for myself. I thought a stray rooster had joined my group. She's a little over a year old.
