I got an egg that’s a different colour from usual.
Is it possible that a 4 months old pullet made it?
She (and sister who is smaller) is a leghorn mix, but doesn’t really have much of a comb yet. Their face is red though.

Suspicious egg is in the middle. White is the mothers’s egg and brown is father’s sister’s egg.
I also have a blue layer and a cream layer.

It's also possible it's just a glitch from an already layer.. shade can vary throughout the season. My normally cream colored layer.. throws tan eggs every now and again. Once in a while the same gal might throw a white egg.. she's very glitchy. All eggs start out white.. with exception to true blue.. which get it's color mixed with the calcium coating at the shell gland verses being laid on top at the "color booth" as all brown-ish eggs are. Certainly.. that middle egg might be the color I'd expect from the cross you describe. Feel free to post a pic of the gal in question!

Most pullet eggs.. start out around the 38-42 gram weight range. Rarely do they start full size.. that looks full size to me in comparison to those with it. Sometimes they do throw much larger than expected eggs as the reproductive system comes online and works out it's kinks.. and sometime larger pullet eggs are double or multi-yolkers.

Face/comb turns red about 3-4 weeks before the onset of lay in my experience but that may vary some by season. Sometimes red faces can be a reflection of the ambient temperature or activity level.. in other words flushing.

Oh.., there is a way to check the distance between the pelvic bones and moistness of the vent itself to determine if one is laying.. See links for description.. All are similar but with slightly different descriptions, making for a well rounded explanation..
