fuzzi's Chicken Journal

I think Hannah is having issues. She's always laid a smaller egg, but I've not seen one from her, figured heat or soft molt (lots of feathers around the coop) was the reason. I saw her in the nest box before roosting time, went back after dark to collect her egg. No egg. Hmm. Went to check under the roost, occasionally I find an egg there. I did, but it appears to be a shelless egg, broken from a fall, and seeping into the litter.

Hopefully it is just a one off thing, like Wyorp suggested.

Unfortunately it is a common thing for me now. I see shell-less eggs or soft shell eggs quite a bit. Ladies are all doing fine otherwise.

Don't have Calcium Citrate+D3, will pick up some on the way home.
I ordered some of that in drops as I was giving a hen Tums. My own calcium is the same as Tums, just less mgs. I'm an eye dropper girl, I guess, as I have B-complex and a few other chicken things here in drops. I can shove just about anything down a chicken's throat, but I really, really hate doing it.

I found Calcium Citrate+D3 at the employee pharmacy. One tablet is 315 units, just a little more than recommended. I broke it in half, smeared it with tuna fish, and while holding Hannah like a football, pried open her beak, and got her to swallow the halves separately. She was not amused. I gave her a dollop of tuna afterwards, as a reward.

Tried to give Hannah her daily pill, she was not having it! I got her to swallow one half, but she spit out the second half, and I couldn't locate it.

But I found a pretty Hannah egg in the nesting box :love

Hannah's egg is the smaller one.

Should I keep trying to give her pills?

They certainly are not as calm as the Sussex and Dominiques.

It's hard to get a photo in focus.
