Hey Everyone,

I believe this chicken is about 3 months old. I wondering about the sex because she/he has a back ridge of feathers. The spurs are the same as my hens. Both of the chickens in these pictures are Black sex links.

The chicken in question is on the right.

Sorry the pictures are not that great. Its a little hard to get pictures of moving chickens. :)

If they're black sex links then they are pullets. Males would be barred. Never go by the spurs because most chickens will have spur buds. Some females will have well developed spurs and some males will have hardly any at all. It varies from chicken to chicken

Thank you! :) New info is always welcome. In the case of pullets, do the males still act the same as fertile roosters? As in, will he crow and protect the hens?

Do you have a rooster (you do realize that pullets are young hens)? If so, all roosters crow, so your rooster will definitely crow. Some roosters are better at protecting hens than others so there is no way to know for sure what kind of job he will do in that regard until he is actually put to the test.
