I was thinking of adding some more hens to the flock. My problems are idk if I have enough space. They have two roosting areas but only use one bc I think its higher and they dont like the lower one in the other room. They also like to be together not in two separate rooms. I have also a rooster is mean so idk how he will react to new girls. I have 1 silkie out of a standard flock and she gets picked on that's why we have rooms that she likes to go up and chill in there. If I get more silkies than they will most likely get picked on too. Sorry the pictures are bad, the wind blockers make bad lighting right now. There will be more room and more stuff to play on eventually but waiting for snow to go away. And I do let them out as much as I can for a little bit (supervised). They have a fence around the coop area so they dont wander neighbors yards. I also have 3 nesting boxes. 4 if u count the one they dont use in the 2 picture. Lots of ventalation. Since they all love that one roost it does get corwed but theres one under that to the side they also use and than the one in the first picture which is our added room they play in.

How big is your space? How many chickens do you have and how many do you want?

The Usual Guidelines

For each adult, standard-sized hen you need:

  • 4 square feet in the coop (.37 square meters)
  • 10 square feet in the run (.93 square meters),
  • 1 linear foot of roost (.3 meters),
  • 1/4 of a nest box,
  • And 1 square foot (.09 square meters) of permanent, 24/7/365 ventilation, preferably located over the birds' heads when they're sitting on the roost.
Those guidelines are generally considered minimums.

Integration is one of the situations that takes extra space above and beyond the minimums.
