Can you tell the difference between them when they are babies? I bought 3 at TSC. I thought they were Rouens. But I saw some Mallards today at TSC that look just like my ducks.

April 1st ( the day I got them )

I posted some photos of some ducklings that were mostly a mix of rouen and mallard hybrids. They look similar to yours in some way. Yours seem to have the rouen head and I do see a faint second eyestripe, especially in the newer photos. I would say you have a hybrid at the least. If you do, they will get very big, but not quite be shaped like an exhibition rouen.

I am worried about them being mallards and flying. Well flying off. This is my first time raising ducks. Will this be an issue if they are Mallards?

I have both rouens and mallards and I never had an issue with my mallards taking off. They will fly but, mine only fly around the farm and always come back. My mallard follows the rouens around the yard, I also have pekins. They are one big happy flock and they dont like to be seperated...But my aunt has had a few of hers in the past fly off, they no longer get mallards because of that reason. I guess i got lucky, my mallard is on a nest about to hatch this week. Im soooo excited!
Goodluck with your ducklings!

srpaint, whatever you have I have too. They looked just like this when I got them. I got them at TSC on March 11, and they are really big now, They have almost feathered out and are starting to make some differant noises. I think they are female but I am far from an expert on ducks, still waiting to see. Thanks for posting the pics!

I have 3 what I think are Pekin babies. We just started introducing them to the older ducks. They are about a week and a half difference in age. So far so good. I can see them being one big happy family. I have some other ducks I want. Guess I am going to have to buy them online since I have not been able to find them locally. I want to get them all close to the same age. Hoping they will get along better if they are raised from babies together.
