do I keep vent's open?

Yep, if you close those vents, it'll be raining inside in short order. Have a little faith in the chickens. They're all wearing little down jackets and not nearly as worried about the cold as you are. Cold they are fine with, WET and Cold is BAD BAD BAD for them, leave em open!

I have a similar concern. I have three roof level vents in a 4'x6' house; two are triangular in shape, they go from four inches tall to nothing, the other is a three inch by six food slit at the roof line of the tallest side. Their roosts are about 20 inches off the floor of a four foot high coop. It seems they only have about six to eight inches of space between their heads and the triangular vents which are on the north and south side.

Is this too little space between them and the vents. I've been worried that cold air will blow in on top of them and make them sick. Should I start closing the north or south vent?. So far it's not gotten down below 28 degrees in the morning but it will drop significantly before winter's over.

Short coops are difficult to ventilate well in cold-winter areas. Your best bet, when it gets cold enough that you don't want a vent open right immediately over the roost, is to have plenty of vent area available on the opposite (hopefully downwind) side of the coop, so that you can open vents *there* and have the ones right by the roost closed, a lot at least.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
