Chicken gurus: I have four adult hens (a lavender orpington, a silkie, a Plymouth Rock, and a red hen), a silkie rooster, and an Easter Egger pullet (about 3-4 months old). I live in the SF Bay Area. Do I need a heater for these guys? Thank you.

Chickens over 6 weeks just need a draft free dry area. Since they have feather coats no heat is needed.
Thank you! Was wondering if I'd have to hire an electrician and install heater. Given all the work and money I've sunk into the coop -- retaining walls, wood, construction cloth, sand, chicken feed, scratch, mealie worms -- each egg already is a $7,000 egg.

I don't think you ever even see anywhere near freezing temps,
probably don't even need a heated waterer to prevent freeing water.

Here's how to add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
