Update: My turkey hens are going in to roost without my help now. My new challenge is getting them to lay eggs where I want.

What you think is a desirable nest site may not be what they think is. If you take all the eggs daily without leaving a fake egg will cause them to find a more hidden site.Update: My turkey hens are going in to roost without my help now. My new challenge is getting them to lay eggs where I want.
They know my eggs are fake. I'm thinking about taking their own eggs, blowing them out, then filling them with sand and gluing the holes shut...What you think is a desirable nest site may not be what they think is. They know the ceramic goose eggs I use are fake but they do keep the turkey hens using a nest. They know my eggs are fake. I'm thinking about taking their own eggs, blowing them out, then filling them with sand and gluing the holes shut...![]()
No, but they will abandon a nest if their eggs keep disappearing. It is in their very nature to hide their nests to protect the eggs from predators and themselves from the toms.So do the turkey hens need other hens to lay eggs??
You are far enough north that it may not be time yet. My hens will likely start laying in another week or two. March 15 is the earliest they tend to start here.I'm just wondering why she hasn't laid any yet..
