Put up one roost did not think my chicks could get up on it was planning on putting up another one so they could use that to get to the higher one, but looks like they don't need it. Was Waiting on getting the neasting box complete due to that will be what the other roost is attached to. It is about 8" up to the black jack (going to be using deep litter method)
Do you think I should still put in the 2nd roost or leave it how it is. Was thinking in the winter without the 2nd roost it will give them more space it is a 4x4 coop and I have 4 chickens with an attached run

I have several roost in my Run/Coop, the 5 Wynadottes I have ALL sleep on the same roost above the nest and use the same nest. My thought, you're fine with the roost you have.

That is plenty of roost for four chickens. As long as they are able to get up on it will be fine. I do have a lower roost in mine but they never sleep on it. Just a step for them to get to the higher one. Don't know your local but mine never stay in the coop in the daytime.

They are in the run during the day or if we are home the roam in our yard. I'm in Wy so when winter comes I'm thinking they will spend more time in the coop

Coop is 4x4 so I assume roost extends clear across coop making it 4 ft? That is 1 ft of roost per bird and should be fine

Also, in winter they use less space as they roost closer together. ..it's summer when they tend to spread out and use more space per bird

I have one in the run which they use a lot and one in the coop they use at night they're not low but not to high and for 6 that plenty
