do i need a vent on my homebuilt incubator??

can it be air tight, or does it need to be air tight. i have a very small crack at the top of the door. did a test run today for the very first time even with the small crack it seems to hold temp very well. i used the hotwater thermostat. and drilled it like the others i have seen on here. but im still getting a 3 deg. temp before it comes on and off. wish i could get it to 1 or 2 any way wasnt clear on the whole air tight thing with the humid and stuff thanks for any help

Needs vents or the eggs will die. There needed for heat flow (http://cmfarm.us/stillair.html) an for egg evaporation too.(http://cmfarm.us/ventilation.html)

As for the thermometer. Move it closer to your light. The closer it is to the light the more radiant heat it get. The more radiant heat it gets the faster it cycles. The faster it cycles the smaller the temperature change. You will have to adjust the thermostat up some after you move it.

I drilled the holes in the thermostat to 1/4 " And moved it from the wall !" with spacers
it works good 4/10 of degree temp swing
