I have 9 babies in the brooder with one nipple waterer which they are going to town on. Do I need another waterer or will 1 be enough? Don't want to take up more brooder space if it isn't necessary. Thanks for all your help. I just love this BYC site!

i found that occasionally a nipple would get a little stopped up. admittedly, i'm adding ACV and i think it's little chunks of the mother that are doing this. for this reason alone, i would add an alternate.

i had 7 chicks on 2 nipples and now that they are outside and using their big girl nipple watererer i've added a 3rd one. again, this is for redundancy.

from watching them it seems to me that around 3 chicks over 2 weeks old can drink off one nipple at the same time. so in theory one nipple should do you as they don't all have to drink at the same time.

The nipples are attached to a plastic 1 qt. thermos. I added another thermos and they seem to like it better. Not as much competition this way and not as much chance that they both would stop working. My girls seem really happy. I started making a treat for them out of their food with a little water added to soften it up. They love it!

Well I'm no lactation specialist, and my mind went there too. Obviously many others were still in YOUR work mode...lol.
