Do I need more than 1 waterer?

I am ALMOST ready for my pullets! I have a coop that is 5x8 and a run attached to it that is 8x10. I am planning on 6 birds.
I have 1, 1 gallon waterer that I will hang out under the 3 foot part of the run that is covered should I put another waterer in the coop for them as well?

Not needed unless you plan on letting them out late...but always good to have spare equipment.

I would put another one in the coop. One gallon isn't super big and if you have six chickens then I'm afraid that the top birds might hog it. So either upgrade to a five gallon waterer or add a new one.

Agreed. You should have a second one in the coop, especially on bad weather days when they want to hunker down inside rather than out in the run.

A gallon of water is plenty for 6 birds....my 9 full grown birds only drink a half a gallon a day.

I leave mine in the coop and they go in and out all day to drink, gives me the option of tending to the birds later in the morning if I want....or leave them in the coop all day if the weather is bad in the winter.

I have 16 chickens that all share a 1 ft. tall waterer (not sure how many gallons) and it works out fine! In the summer though I would recommend maybe having 2 because it's so hot and I have to keep filling it up. But in the winter I think it's best to have one because it freezes and I think it would be hard to defrost 2.

I actually have 2 one gallon waterers, I rotate them every day-one trip out to the coop, works well for winter too as one has time to defrost while the other does duty in the coop.

I have a 5 gallon bucket with nipples in the run and a 2.5 gallon bucket with nipples in the coop. I've noticed I have a few chicks who like to plop down on the ramp at the pop door and block it. Also, if the weather is bad, I don't want to worry about not letting them out. I feel better having two separate locations for water for these reasons and also in case of an equipment malfunction.

Exactly!!! I'm doing the very same thing...5 gallon outside, 2.5 gallon inside....
