Do I need to help this chick?

Here is my little chick that I am worried about...it is standing with its siblings who hatched the same day. Do you think it has spraddle legs?

Yes, it does.

I have one exactly like it but just a tiny bit worse. I tried the little splint, but the chick freaked out and went rolling all over the brooder, shreiking and when he finally did get on his feet he just stood with his head between his legs pecking at it.

I decided to take it off and just watch him at this time. He is getting around...I think it will get better over time.

Time will tell. I will say that chicks that won't open their eyes usually don't make it. I've had several and they would live for 3-5 days and die. I wouldn't worry about the wobbling around for a few days...just MAKE SURE you see it pecking at food and drinking water. If it does that...on it's own...you're probably home free.

LOL- I had the exact same thing happen(rolling, protesting, picking), decided just to leave it alone and it was fine after a couple of days.

I've got him drinking sugar water to get his energy up. He had his eyes open last nite, up till i picked him up to check on him, get a drink. he's moving around pretty good. Watch, I brag on this lil guy and when I go in to check on him in a min and he will have expired on me. Named him strength so he would have some.

skand - instead of the sugar water, have you tried poly-vi-sol liquid vitamins? They have worked wonders on some of my chicks...this one is coming along slowly but surely.
It is eating and drinking (but its like chick bowling and the other chicks are the pins)

Ditto vitamins over sugar water. Sugar water is good for a quick burst, when a chick initially presents stressed or cold.

in humans or animals, persistent high sugar intake damages the immune system, destroys anti-oxidants. Brief use of sugar for an energy burst is one thing. long term use of sugar is detrimental.

Good luck with the baby...

We did the sugar just to get him up to see if he stands a chance. He responded well, so we switched to just water throughout the night. Did a lil bit this morning, after he made it through. Haven't been to the store yet this morning, will grab some vitamins then. lol dang kids too big for me to keep that on hand anymore. doing chewies now. picturing telling a lil chick,, here chew this animal shaped vitamin.
HIS EYES ARE OPEN NOW!! for long times even!! He's up and walking around, the others aren't looking at him like he's a small domino anymore! That's what was scaring me more then anything.
Just hope he stops walking/tumbling through the food and starts pecking at it at least. That way I know he'll try to pull hisself through. Sure hate feeling like it's only me wanting him to live.

Just as I told yall, brag about the lil fella, get all attached to him, perking him up, getting fluids and vitamins, and the booget dived on me
