Do I need to leave battery powered thermometer on the whole hatch?

I'm considering purchasing a battery powered thermometer, with humidity reader built in as well. I'm not sure how long the batteries will last, so I was wondering if it's okay to turn on thermometer every few days? Or no leave on constantly?

Batteries are cheap. You'll never know what the temp is, or if you have a temp spike if that thermometer isn't giving you a constant read out. I probably check my temp a dozen times/day. Even with a battery powered thermometer, you still need to be sure it's accurate. I calibrate at 100 degrees. Happy hatching.
