Hi, I'm new here. We're currently painting our coop - although I feel like I'm having a hard time getting to all the nooks and crannies.

Do I need to paint the inside of the coop? I can't figure out how I'll get inside it. Our coop isn't very big - just enough for 3 girls.

Hi & Welcome to BYC,

You do not need to paint the inside of the coop.
A good coating of glossy paint can help with the cleaning, but is not a requirement.

I'm happy that I took the time and effort to paint our coop. Scrubbing poop off the walls and floor is much easier off of paint than an absorbent piece of raw wood. I would recommend painting and consider putting laminate flooring down, also.

We didnt paint ours, but you can if you want

IMO, the little amount of time and sweat involved in painting the interior of a small coop will pay off for years. You don't have loose droppings soaking into the wood, and it just makes general clean-up (even just wiping down walls with a damp rag) SO much easier. But many people don't paint...(and many write on various posts that they wish they had).

For the inside, can you use exterior house paint? or a semi-gloss interior?

I am going to paint the outside of my coop to match my house and was going to use the same paint (Behr satin exterior house paint with primer) and was going to use that for the interior, too.

thanks again!

Exterior, glossy as you can find.
I actually used (leftover) high gloss floor paint. Cleans up pretty nice.
